Why cold process soap is good for your skin?

Cold process soap is good for your skin in many ways including benefits that keep the skin healthier naturally. These soaps are made by hand without the normal chemicals added like commercial soaps. The ingredients are many, but the basic handmade soap recipe includes sodium hydroxide (lye), distilled water, oils (fat) and maybe scent.

The reason handmade soaps are good for your skin are the non-stripping and non-drying benefits of the soaps. Commercial soaps are manufactured with detergents, which potentially strip away the sebum (natural skin oil) from the surface of the skin.

Sebum is naturally made by our bodies helping to seal in moisture and prevent skin from becoming overly dry. It also helps protect our bodies from bacteria by the body fighting against infections.

What about the white ash on top of my soap bar? Is this cold process soap good for my skin?
  1. It’s called soda ash.

  2. When soap is too cold after the soap is poured into the mold and then insulated to complete the saponification process soda ash may form.

  3. Soda ash occurs on soap due to the natural process of unsaponified lye reacting with carbon dioxide in the air. A natural harmless reaction when making cold process soap.

  4. Soaps with this left on top are used for an aesthetic looking artisan soap look and feel.

Here at Green Living Soap Co., we used only natural approved ingredients when making our soaps. That’s why our cold process soap is good for your skin.

What is the difference between a deodorant and an antiperspirant?

Deodorants fight bacteria which are responsible for the generation of body odour. They contain deodorizing actives which prevent bacterial growth or even reduce the number of bacteria in the axilla.

Antiperspirants contain antiperspirant actives – usually aluminum salts, which reduce the release of sweat from the sweat glands as they form temporary gel plugs in the most upper parts of the sweat pores. These plugs are removed over time by mechanical action and the natural skin renewal process. Antiperspirants also have a deodorizing effect as they inhibit bacterial growth due to a lower pH and the reduction of moisture in the axilla.

What are Laundry Detergent Sheets?

Laundry detergent sheets are a relatively new type of laundry detergent that is taking the world by storm.

They are thin, dissolvable sheets that are made with concentrated detergent and other cleaning ingredients. Laundry sheets are just as effective at cleaning clothes as traditional liquid or powder detergents.

Here are a few reasons why:

  1. Laundry sheets do not require any plastic packaging. Green Living Soap laundry sheets are packaged just in cardboard which can be composted at home or popped in your recycling.

  2. Laundry sheets are typically made with concentrated detergent, which means that you use less detergent per load. This can help to reduce water pollution and save energy.

  3. Many laundry sheets are made with plant-based ingredients and are free of harsh chemicals. This makes them a safer option for your family and the environment.

How long does a bar of soap last?

Our soap dries very hard, which means a longer life for the bar. However, a bar of soap in the shower will get used up more quickly than a bar used strictly for hand washing. For hand washing, a bar can last up to two months. In the shower, the bar will last about 2-3 weeks. To extend the life of your bar of Pacha Soap, keep it out of direct contact with water and let the bar dry between uses.

Why do you use palm oil?

Our palm oil is Rainforest Alliance Certified, RSPO certified, organic certified, non-GMO and Fair Trade certified through IMO. We are also brand partners of the Palm Done Right movement. We choose this high-quality, sustainable palm oil because it creates fair wages and sustainable livelihoods for farmers in developing nations while adhering to conservation requirements regarding soil, water, native plants, wildlife and forest areas. Use of most pesticides and chemicals is also restricted. Palm has a high oil yield and when used in soap making, contributes to excellent moisturizing and foaming properties!
